Coming into ART 325, I had had a relatively hands-off experience in my education program. I had never written a lesson plan, never conducted a classroom, and never applied the theories and concepts I was learning about. Teaching 3D Artistic Abilities has come to be one of the most meaningful experiences of my education studies so far. This five-week class served as an opportunity for members of the community, with and without disabilities, to come together and grow as artists. Artistic Abilities Facebook page describes some of their goals as: "To provide art instruction in various modalities", "To raise self-esteem", and "To foster socialization and build community". Teaching this class (with four of my peers) in conjunction with taking ART 325 and EDUC 350 allowed for an incredible transfer and application of concepts. Artistic Abilities helped solidify that this is the career I want to pursue. There were some great successes and great growing experiences along the way and I hope you learn something, as I did, in this blog.
