Our 3D Artistic Abilities class took place every Tuesday 4-6PM for five weeks at the CSU Art Education studio. Our class was full of a variety of ages, abilities, personalities, and backgrounds. Many of our students were very vocal about what they loved and what interested them. Some took a little longer to come out of their shell. Class-to-class size varied a little but there was never less than five students or more than eleven. The class learning styles explicitly included kinesthetic, visual, and auditory. There were a couple students that blossomed in response to noise, songs, and loud noises while others recoiled at the voice of a classmate. Ages of students ran a wide spectrum. All of the students had taken other Artistic Abilities classes together so almost all of them already knew each other. From day one our lessons included stations for students to circulate so their was student choice right off the bat and in this way we got to know students based on what media and content they gravitated toward. We also tracked our explorations on an idea bubble chart in the front of the room throughout the entirety of the course (but I will elaborate more on this later). The mere set up of the class allowed for ample opportunities to really get to know students. With five teachers in the room and no more than eleven students on any given day, there was a great chance to get to sit next to and really spend time with a single student and I capitalized on this. It is one of the many facets I will miss most about this class.
